On November 7, 1994, WXYC-FM (Chapel Hill, North Carolina) became the first radio station in the world to offer a live Internet simulcast of an off-air signal. This Sunday marked the ten-year anniversary of this event…is it possible that its been that long?
The folks at WXYC decided to celebrate the anniversary in splendid fashion. They created an original anniversary CD entitled Bandwidth featuring NC favorites Shark Quest, Black Taj, the Micro East Collective and others. The CD is available as a free download from the WXYC site – as individual songs or as a whole album. Additionally, WXYC put on a panel discussion featuring the intrepid three (Paul Jones, David McConville and Michael Shoffner) who set up the first streams. It’s an interesting discussion and can also be downloaded for free.
