With reference to the Republic News article, how does its privacy policy compare to other networking sites? Is it rare for large-scale sites with massive popularity to have these kinds of connections, be it to the government or to other sources of info-sharing?

just wondering if facebook is some orwellian big brother masquerading as social networking.

The trick, via mashable, is something that I already do since the friending process wastes far too much of my time as it already is-

go to their profile and click ‘confirm pending confirmation,’ voila. I would not friend anyone but the most important of contacts if this ‘bug’ stayed in place and there wasn’t that go-around, though. Ugh.

Thanks for responding, and good to hear it’s just a bug. However, I did attempt to confirm a friendship w/o selecting friend details, and the confirmation did not work.
