I don't understand that, yeah. You don't want to have a need to block spam? Or you refuse to block spam because you wish there wasn't a need to block it?

?__?

I know I can block them, but I don't want to have a relationship with such a valuable information space that I feel the need to block spam. So my point is more a meta-point. That probably didn't come across well.

Greasemonkey solves this problem. I even use it to load custom stylesheets for FB so that it changes color based on what the pictures are that appear in my feed. Sure, it's dumb fun, but between all the ad blocking (I don't see a single ad on FB ever) and that, it makes it feel more like a space that belongs to me and less a Push Portal for the stuff they want me to see. Scripts: Facebook flyer remover, facebook news feed as nuker, facebook autocolorizer, facebook autologin v 2. Now that I can play scrabble there, I'm a bit more hooked than I used to be.

Yes, I'm ranting. But I am preparing a post on the value of information places, that will explore the costs of efficiency dilution.

The sponsored ads never really bothered me. I, like many others presumably, have become accustomed to the practice of ignoring ads on any website.

I think it's a fair trade-off for the service they're providing.

I don't see any ads OR facebook news spam-ads; I run AdBlock for the normal ads and have Greasemonkey extensions to get rid of the Facebook newsfeed ads. I highly recommend firing them up, makes the experience more pleasant. I can't say my Newsfeed is as useful as it once was, either, but that's because I have a lot of new friends that I don't know very well or care much about clogging it up with random life-feed junk. Oh well.
