Quickly, two noteworthy new publications in the SNS space:
- First Monday has published Brett Bumgarner’s manuscript “You have been poked: Exploring the uses and gratifications of Facebook among emerging adults.” I’m very pleased to see this go to print as I was one of Brett’s Honors Thesis advisors.
- Zeynep Tufekci of UMBC has recently sent a manuscript entitled “Can You See Me Now? Audience and Disclosure Regulation in Online Social Network Sites” to press. Also very interesting.
Finally, an interesting paper in JOIS, entitled “A comparison of academics’ attitudes towards the rights protection of their research and teaching materials.” This study found significant differences in desired rights protection between teachers and researchers. Unlike the two studies I linked above, you can’t read this one because it’s behind a paywall.

Sage seems to have a Free Trial program, of course with lots of privacy strings attached… So until Nov 30th, you have the choice between a paywall and a spamwall.
Why would they need my details for that? Sage: I’m reading stuff like your stuff 24/7, therefore my interests must be in long, boring, tedious academic papers and in FREE, easy to access without crapware, long boring, academic papers; so far, you only got number one.
