I’m pleased to release Freedom v0.4, a major update to the Freedom software. This new version is a fresh rewrite, incorporating the ability to access local networks, an extended time period, and many significant bug fixes. Particularly, Freedom’s authentication mechanism has changed (fixing the password-timeout bug) and Freedom will now appropriately handle suspends and sleeps.
Freedom v0.4 remains Mac only, and it is tested through OS 10.5.6. This new version was paid for (thank you!) by those who have donated in the past. I strongly recommend that all users upgrade as soon as possible.

If you run into any problems/have suggestions please leave them in the comments. I do not plan on developing a Windows version, sorry.

Your Freedom application is all the rage in our PhD program at Princeton! It’s keeping us all on task and distraction-free in the library. Many thanks for scripting it and making it available for free download.
It is great to hear that Freedom is on the march at Princeton!
Oh but wait, I just tried out the new version and am finding it difficult in two particular ways:
1. is it supposed to disable my apple remote? i like living internet-free, but would ideally like to adjust iTunes without switching back and forth between apps.
2. i see why my ability to force quit Freedom ought to be disabled. However, I was barred from force quitting any applications at all – again, a problem when I regrettably told PowerPoint to do too many things at once.
Have other users found these things difficult? I returned to v. .3 for now.
Thanks!
Hmm, neither of those symptoms would be caused by Freedom. I haven’t received any bug reports of that nature.
It sorta sounds like your Finder/Dock crashed, something that happens from time to time. If that happens again, open a terminal and type ‘killall -9 Finder’.
Thanks for the suggestion. I only assumed Freedom was involved because as soon as my internet-free time elapsed, all returned to normal with force quit and the remote.
I’ll re-install 0.4, try again, and see if the same thing happens.
