About the Scaling Social Networks Workshop:
Utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, this workshop delivers essential, no-hype insight and analysis that organizations need to make informed decisions in the social software and social networks space. Designed with the non-specialist in mind, the workshop mixes case- and research-based modules with an open "unconference" format, encouraging interactivity, brainstorming and feedback-based learning.
Scaling Social Networks focuses on issues of relevance to organizations: Social networks adoption, use and motivations, privacy and security, as well as business models and revenue development. About Fred:
Fred Stutzman is a researcher in the field of social networks and social software. Currently working on a Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina's School of Information and Library Science, Stutzman has spent the last four years studying, researching and teaching online social networks. In addition to his research, Stutzman co-created and developed the leading Web 2.0 identity management service ClaimID.com.
Fred's work has been covered by leading media outlets including: Wired, Newsweek, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and Washington Post. He has served as a consultant or advisor to the presidential campaigns of John Kerry, Wesley Clark and John Edwards, the MacArthur Foundation, and organizations large and small. His analysis is sought by leading research organizations, including the Pew Internet and American Life Project, National Science Foundation-funded projects, and the European Network and Information Security Agency.
In addition to his research accomplishments, Stutzman is an accomplished speaker and presenter. He has delivered over fifty research talks to audiences large and small, including audiences at Yahoo! and Google. An experienced conference and workshop organizer, Stutzman managed BarCampRDU (a 200-person unconference), and the Social Software Symposium. Fred's blog, Unit Structures, has over 2500 subscribers, and when he isn't blogging he's working on a book for Morgan-Claypool entitled "Research and Analysis of Online Social Networks."
